WHERE TO START

When cutting down a tree, you notch at first in the shape of a letter V. This part, made of the process of notching is called "ukekuchi". It is logically shaped for cutting it down and yet has cuteness. A little piece of "ukekuchi" becomes a peg for a tree to start a great journey for becoming houses, furniture and paper. Then, a great journey of a tree will be taken over for the regeneration of richly green forests, woods and maintenance of our happy lives.

"Design talks! But does design need language?" Just like rallying at a table tennis game, designs rallied between two Japan and Switzerland, two different countries. They carried out exchange without relying on languages through producing works. First, each designer designed freely on a piece of cloth measuring 1.5m x 3.0m and

An English artist, Richard Woods is known for making large scaled works of mainly wood, and uses architectural skills. Covering real buildings with wooden boards by adopting a traditional printmaking technique and applying household gloss on top, he completes this large scaled project. This time, he covers the floor dynamically
with a work named "logo", a grain drawn on woodcuts. Whole space of "SPACE" becomes the work. He is showing the work titled "offcut" which he use plywoods as materials and composed graphics with parquetry.

For today's lifestyle, the perfect bowl for everyday use should be larger than the traditional tea cup, but smaller than the usual donburi or rice bowl. Based on this idea, 6 artists have designed their perfect bowl. In collaboration with the magazine, "Grazia", well known interior stylist,
Fumiko Sakuhara, Rika Maezawa, cookery expert
and owner of vegetarian restaurant, "NANAKUSA" has designed the ideal cuisine for each bowl. Together with the bowls, photos of the culinary creations by Toru Kometani, will be on display.

This exhibition offers an opportunity to once again ponder the future of design as well as the mysterious powers of nature which transcend the limits of human imagination. Tokujin Yoshioka, the director of the exhibition, has attempted to incorporate in his own design work the many laws that exist in nature, while at the same time
exploring the possibilities of technology. This experimental exhibition presents the works of eight groups of creators, including Yoshioka himself. A cloud-like installation that envelop the exhibit space is also presented.

The worldwide MUJI could only realize these must-see items through a dream-come-true collaboration with them.

"It is not interesting if it is not avant-garde." Japan and the world are paying attention to the view of Koichiro Kimura which is created under such philosophy for designing.

A textile maker since 1897 opened a kimono brand for real clothing, "awai". They collaborated with "matohu", which brings in its particular sense to the Tokyo fashion scene by turning Japanese aesthetics into clothing. Awai and matohu introduce the joy of Japanese soul clothing, kimono. Matohu crosses over freely the borders
between kimono and clothes to present a contemporary lifestyle to evolve a kimono as real clothing, which is awai's concept. To those who have worn or never worn kimono will come across with something new.

PHOTO EXHIBITION

In the summer of 2002 , I felt a somewhat escapist urge to go somewhere far away. I travelled to Greek islands. Summer came, I just walked on with my cameras at my hand in a glittering town full of brand shops. Yet, I could
see a realistic side of the town that was far away from what I expected the island to be. As if I were drawn, I released a shutter. This work, which was titled "TABI NO SORA (Sky in travel)" is a collection of monochromatic photographs taken by a photographer who took photos as she felt like.

"no antiques, no life." Under this theme, THE GLOBE that has marked its 17th anniversary and matured a bit, is presenting the attraction of antiques. They collaborated with an active interior stylist, Chinatsu Kambayashi. You can feel inspiration for life with antiques in the space respectful for antiques. 1 F : Chandeliers and the

This shall give you a chance to get a
glimpse of a Dutch design scene that has been attracting the world.

Starting by a public exhibition of a new Barcelonan brand "Mixing media", Marti Guixe taking part there, they are posting works by many artists such as Emiko Oki, Rie Yagura, Hidetoshi Kuranari, Yuri Suzuki + Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad+Filip Tyden, andscape (Ichiro Higashiizumi etc.) and FREITAG on each floor. New hotel room by Kaname Okajima and a
temporary camp site on the roof top will be presented as well.

Jaime Hayon - Life with Smile -

Jaime Hayon was ins talled as an ar t advisor for
LLADRO, a time-honoured Spanish porcelain brand in 2006 . He is presenting his fully original works called "fantasy", made after through careful preparations. He has already remade existing works by LLADRO as a "Re Deco" series in the first job as an art advisor. Isetan are precedently selling the series at the Shinjuku store, which was haighly acclaimed by the Milano Salone. There is no end to his breakthrough that brought innocation into tradition.

"Leisure and smile for daily life." Under the theme of life with smile, latest works by a newly born LLADRO by the designer Jaime Hayon, limited editions for Isetan by "Floyd" masterpiece produced by Yusuke Fujinuma, latest and revived works by an Italinan design factory, ALESSI, and works by Japanese creators also gather around there. Design's new wind will be discovered from
smile inducing happy living items.

IGUCHI STEEL & CO., LTD. is mainly engaging in processing and selling steel materials. They manufactured vases out of steel pipes with technology with cooperation from Hanazen Florist. They mixed corduroy steel that does not rust until reaching a certain level due to protective rust films with rust resistant stainless steel made by composion of materials. The contrastive potentiality
and quality of these two steels bring out the best of iron steel. Have a look at big flowers made of inorganic yet organic iron steel as receptacles for plants,which represent absolute beauty.

If you do not separate rubbish according to the type or throw away what you do not have to, he or she will go down with stomach ache. "POPET" has condition like environment. If you care "POPET", you will also be friendly to environment.

It is a light called "Rebirth", which was made of real egg shells put together. Egg shells are very fragile and weak but you can make a big structure by dispersing power and complementing. The logically generated shape shows beauty by an autonomous relations such as life.
A trace of life slightly seen through will make you feel there is a depth that goes beyond merely an object and
a person.

Everything Has A Next Life. All trash is connected to our future. "treasured trash" has started with a theme of "Designing for a sustainable world" in 2006 . Trying to invent the real eco-design products and communications. This time, presenting new progressive trials collaborating with "SEE YOU AGAIN!" by Yuji Tokuda, a message for the relationship between people and trash, "Abandonment is never the last parting".
