Born in 1958 in Tokyo. After working as a performer and choreographer, spent two years studying abroad in London and New York. Made his debut as director of the original musical “I Got Merman.” Extended his activities beyond musicals to straight plays and opera as well. In 2004, became the first Asian director of “Pacific Overtures” at On Broadway in New York, and was nominated for Tony Awards in four categories. In 2007, he staged the same production at the Santa Fe Opera. In 2008, he released his original musical “Up in the Air” at the Japan Festival in Washington. Now handles direction for the festive musical theater piece “Turandot” the Akasaka ACT Theater. Scheduled to direct “The Drowsy Chaperone” at the Nissay Theater in January 2009, and the opera “La Traviata” in February.
