Made his debut as director of the original musical “I Got Merman.” Extended his activities beyond musicals to straight plays and opera as well. In 2004, became the first Asian director of “Pacific Overtures” at On Broadway in New York, and was nominated for Tony Awards in four categories. In 2007, he staged the same production at the Santa Fe Opera. In 2008, he released his original musical “Up in the Air” at the Japan Festival in Washington. Now handles direction for the festive musical theater piece “Turandot” the Akasaka ACT Theater. Scheduled to direct “The Drowsy Chaperone” at the Nissay Theater in January 2009, and the opera “La Traviata” in February.

KYOTA

Born in 1973 in Okinawa. Majored in sociology at university. After graduation, spent time at the Tokyo Glass Art Institute and produced and designed blown glass at Rurian in Nagasaki.During a 3 year stay in New York, he attended the School of Fine Arts at the National Academy of Design while producing work at Urban Glass and exhibiting at galleries and shops.In 2004, his work was selected for inclusion in the Japan Craft Exhibition. After returning to Japan, he authored picture books, produced restaurants, participated in table art exhibitions and planned and managed concerts, crossing genres in a wide variety of pursuits while continuing to devote himself to production in his glass studio. 2006 saw a successful solo exhibition being held in Hiroo, and in 2007 he handled the design for Laglass, a fusion of Ryukyu (Okinawan) glass and lacquer art, and started pursuing work as a glass designer as well.

First on the list is Marti Guixe, who will present the new brand “Mixing Media” from Barcelona at its world premiere.
