Starting with the main site, Design Tide in Tokyo 2007 will spread all over town.
DesignTide 2007 will be held at both the main site and the extension sites.
The National Stadium will be this year's main site, where an exposition of design will be held for fi ve days from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4. With the addition of the Marunouchi area for the first time, a total of 53 galleries and cafes will be used as extension site in Aoyama-Harajuku-Shibuya- Roppongi-Marunouchi area.
The whole message of DesignTide 2007 is condensed into this space. Many designers will be incorporating this year's theme “PLAY = COMMUNICATION” into works in many mediums including interactive art, workshops, and movies.
The core of the main site is going to be Tide Exhibition. 50 groups of designers and manufacturers from around the world will be exhibiting a wide variety of works, from installations to prototypes. Additionally this year, there will be a trade space named FROM, which will be focusing on eight particular brands. It will be a space of vast connectedness, on a scale that is bigger than the intermingling of individual designers and manufacturers.
This is a super-market in which designers will be opening their own shops. This project began last year, and it is a symbol of the unique qualities of DesignTide. This year it will be even more 'super,' having more shops than ever. It will be appealing for visitors to be able to ask about the concepts behind the items, directly from the people who designed them.
DesignTide's Official Projects are collaborative works between DesignTide and the participant designers.
This year, we produced a set of communication tools for the event with a variety of designers.
Shops, galleries and cafes in the areas of Aoyama, Harajuku, Shibuya, and Roppongi, and Marunouchi will be exhibiting works. Designers and shop staff will be setting up displays, each in their own unique way, and the whole city will be filled with encounters with new works of design.
